Fundy Coastal Drive

Come and explore the 391km Fundy Coastal Drive where whales and other wildlife are often your travelling companions. You could complete the drive in five hours, but to really appreciate the sights, lighthouses, trails, beaches and experiences that you will encounter en route, give yourself a few days (or more).

You'll find a host of conveniently-located comfortable places to dine, relax and spend the night. Stay in the heart of the city, overlooking the ocean, or deep in a forest, and dine at charming inns which serve an abundance of fresh, local seafood.

The route connects St Stephen (to the west) and Sackville (to the east): not only does it offer the chance to get close to some of our greatest natural wonders, but it will also lead you to some of New Brunswick’s best urban adventures. The cities of Saint John, Moncton and Dieppe which offer great shopping, dining, culture and entertainment. Our towns and villages – such as Black’s Harbour, departure point for the ferry to Grand Manan Island, St Martins and Alma, great bases to visit the Fundy Trail and Fundy National Park, St Andrews and Sackville - are also treats.

Much of the way, you’ll have access to – or views of – the Bay of Fundy, one of Earth’s true marine wonders, famous for the world’s highest tides and one of the greatest and most accessible concentrations of whales and seabirds in the North Atlantic.

Take a boat trip to see the whales, a ferry to explore the Fundy Isles, or paddle a canoe around the stunning tree-tufted giant pillars of stone that reach up from the ocean floor at Hopewell Rocks. Ferry rides to the Fundy Isles also make wonderful excursions.

The adventurous will want to rappel oceanside cliffs, spelunk through natural caves, tandem skydive, or ride reversing rapids in a jet boat. The whole family will love dipping their hands in touch tanks full of sea creatures. A leading guide book called the view at Cape Enrage "One of the Best in Canada" – and that’s saying something !

At the fabulous Fundy National Park, over 100 kilometres of trails leading to scenic waterfalls, beaches, gorges, lush Acadian forest, bubbling streams and saltwater marshes.

There are covered bridges to photograph, and Magnetic Hill, where cars roll uphill !

Enjoy fabulous beaches, such as Katy’s Cove (near St Andrews) and New River Beach Provincial Park, and – for swimming, fishing and boating - don’t forget our lakes.

Then, why not slow down the pace and be pampered at a decadent spa, or indulge yourself at the week-long Chocolate Fest? The Atlantic Seafood Festival in Moncton is another winner.

One thing is for sure - you’ll have a whale of a time on the Fundy Coastal Drive !
