Trains

For a change of pace, take the train.

Soak up the romance of the railway and cross New Brunswick in comfort. Six days a week, a VIA Rail train connects Montreal (Quebec) with Halifax (Nova Scotia) making nine stops in New Brunswick en route. From west to east, these are at Campbellton, Charlo, Jacquet, Petit Rocher, Bathurst, Miramichi, Rogersville, Moncton and Sackville stations.

Unlike British trains, travelling by rail in Canada is usually an enjoyable experience. The train which operates through New Brunswick offers such facilities as restaurant and lounge cars, and an observation dome car (summer only) so you can really take in the views as you travel.

A range of fares are on offer, and booking in advance can often secure the best discounts. Book online at www.viarail.ca

And if you're interested in the history of rail travel in Canada, Ministers Island, New Brusnwick is the site of Sir William Van Horne's summer home. He supervised the completion of the first transcontinetal rail route across Canada in 1885.
